NizoÂral is an anti-dandruff shamÂpoo that conÂtains a subÂstance known as
ketoÂconaÂzole. This is a synÂthetic antiÂfunÂgal agent, which stops danÂdruff by killing off the funÂgal infecÂtion that causes it.
NizoÂral shamÂpoo can be effecÂtively used twice a week, between regÂuÂlar shamÂpoos with any other brand of hair prodÂuct. This makes it an ecoÂnomÂiÂcal and easy soluÂtion for danÂdruff conÂtrol and it is indeed a very popÂuÂlar prodÂuct, used by both men and women.
NizoÂral shamÂpoo for hair loss
KetoÂconaÂzole has been sugÂgested as a posÂsiÂble hair loss cure, mainly in the treatÂment of androÂgenic alopeÂcia in both men and women. A small-scale test was conÂducted in 1998 that showed some promisÂing results when ketoÂconaÂzole was taken orally. HowÂever, the FDA conÂcluded that furÂther tests need to be perÂformed before NizoÂral can be deemed an effecÂtive hair loss cure.
KetoÂconaÂzole / NizoÂral is seen to be potenÂtially useÂful as a hair loss treatÂment because it acts as an androÂgen inhibitor, reducÂing the levÂels of testosÂterone in the blood. As excesÂsive testosÂterone is seen as the cause of this form of alopeÂcia, it could indeed have a benÂeÂfiÂcial effect, although in the case of NizoÂral, the effect has been shown to be quite weak. Used as a shamÂpoo, ketoÂconaÂzole could perÂhaps inhibit testosÂterone topÂiÂcally, reducÂing its effect on the follicles.
NizoÂral shamÂpoo for treatÂment of tracÂtion alopeÂcia and thinÂning hair
NizoÂral is preÂdomÂiÂnantly an anti-dandruff shamÂpoo and its direct effects as a hair loss shamÂpoo are, at least for the moment, unsubÂstanÂtiÂated. Since tracÂtion alopeÂcia is not caused by an excess of testosÂterone, it’s quesÂtionÂable whether there would be any direct benÂeÂfit from the use of NizoÂral for treatÂment of this parÂticÂuÂlar form of hair loss. HowÂever, there is some eviÂdence that danÂdruff can conÂtribute to hair loss, as the inflamÂmaÂtion can have a damÂagÂing effect on the folÂliÂcles, which, in the case of tracÂtion alopeÂcia, are already trauÂmaÂtised. Since NizoÂral shamÂpoo is conÂsidÂered one of the most effecÂtive danÂdruff treatÂment shamÂpoos that can be used in conÂjuncÂtion with other shamÂpoos, it can be a useÂful addiÂtion to a hair loss treatÂment regÂiÂmen in between washes with a daily or weekly use hair loss shampoo.
NizoÂral shamÂpoo is also deemed parÂticÂuÂlarly suitÂable for the needs of black women, as it is suitÂable for use with chemÂiÂcally relaxed hair, is genÂtle and only requires two washes a week to be effective.
How to use NizoÂral shampoo
For danÂdruff conÂtrol, NizoÂral should be used every 3–4 days for up to 4 weeks. It can be used in between washes with your norÂmal hair loss shamÂpoo or durÂing the same wash, after shamÂpooÂing with your other choÂsen hair prodÂuct. As a hair loss shamÂpoo for treatÂing androÂgenic alopeÂcia, conÂtinÂued weekly use may be effecÂtive. The manÂuÂfacÂturer of NizoÂral recÂomÂmends conÂsultÂing a health proÂfesÂsional if use of the prodÂuct for 4 weeks does not result in the clearÂing of dandruff.
The verÂdict
Although NizoÂral may have some benÂeÂfiÂcial effect in assistÂing with the preÂvenÂtion of hair loss, direct results are not yet subÂstanÂtiÂated. HowÂever, as an indiÂrect treatÂment for hair loss, it can be an effecÂtive addiÂtion to the treatÂment regÂiÂmen in order to cover all angles and keep the scalp infecÂtion free.
